Originally manufactured by Remington in 1917 to supplement Russian production for World War I but was purchased by the United States in 1918 after the contract was defaulted on. Rifle remains in its original M1891 configuration with blued 32" barrel, blade front sight, early style tangent rear sight, hexagonal receiver, and military style 2-piece walnut stock. In addition to the Imperial Russian markings throughout, a "U.S." and flaming bomb ordnance mark also found on the stock ahead of the magazine. Rifle is complete with spike type bayonet and cleaning rod. CONDITION: Very good. Rifle retains vast majority of factory applied blued finish with some light silvering at high edges, wear on butt plate, and a layer of protective coating. Stock has correct dark appearance with markings still largely visible and impressions throughout. Bore is dark with especially crisp rifling. Good mechanics. External matching numbers observed on the barrel shank, magazine, bolt, cocking knob, and butt plate. BAS
