Lot consists of: (A) Rare Norwich made Allen & Thurber ring trigger dragoon size pepperbox made in the mid 1840s. Features include a 5 - 7/8" .36 caliber 6-barrel cluster, scroll embellished nipple shield scarcely encountered on these pistols, "ALLEN'S PATENT" marked bar hammer, engraved iron frame, and smooth walnut grips with German silver spangles. CONDITION: Good. Iron components exhibit a brown patina throughout. Some pitting present throughout. Grips have wear and impressions, with a small chip on the left panel. Good bores and mechanics. Hammer is cracked but remains serviceable. (B) A few thousand Blunt & Syms under hammer pepperbox pistols are estimated to have been made from the 1830s to 1850s out of European and American parts. This unmarked dragoon size pepperbox features a 5-1/2" .36 caliber 6-barrel cluster, engraved iron frame, ring trigger, and smooth walnut grips. CONDITION: Very good. Iron components display a dark dray patina with some light pitting. Grips are very good with light marks. Fair bores and good mechanics. PROVENANCE: Ex. Rich Guckes. BAS
