Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 Highwall built by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1896. 30" Winchester No. 4 octagon barrel originally in .32-40, re-rifled by Harry M. Pope when he was at Hartford, Connecticut to .33-40 Pope with 8-groove left-handed rifling. Barrel is marked with Winchester 2-line address, Pope's marking "RIFLED BY H.M. POPE HARTFORD CONN.", Winchester caliber marking of .32-40, and No. 4 barrel stamping. Underside of barrel is stamped with Pope barrel number 251, which matches number on false muzzle. Barrel is fitted with Lyman Globe front sight, spirit level rear sight (glass broken), and Winchester tang Vernier sight. Case hardened flat spring double set trigger action with 3-prong lever. Deluxe checkered pistol grip stock with Special Schuetzen buttplate and rare special order cheekpiece on the right hand side. Matching deluxe checkered forearm with ebony inlay and palm rest. Comes with Pope Number 251 false muzzle and brass bullet starter. Cody Factory Research confirms all options but sights. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue fading to a plum patina with plugged rear sight dovetail on left flat. 90% fading action case colors. Wood has light coat of added Linseed oil with period repair at wrist. Shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
