Rupertus 8 shot pepperbox, with only 3,000 manufactured. 8 shot barrel with central removable ejector rod. Barrels with raised ribs and significant evidence of blue in the recesses of the gullets. Rotatable recoil shield / loading gate. Right side of frame with "RUPERTUS' PAT PISTOL MFG Co PHILADA", left side with "RUPERTUS PATENT / JULY 18th 1864". Serial number found on butt and stamped on inside of each grip scale. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels have some good splotches of blue left in the gullets, but high edges and balance are essentially gunmetal grey. Brass has a very good untouched mustard patina, with some spotting and scratches. Grips are very good with some handling marks and pings, but solid. Mechanically fine, bores are very good with a minimum of oxidation. These are hard pepperboxes to find. EMW
