Lot consists of: (A) "A.W. SPIES" retail marked 6-shot .31 caliber pepperbox likely made circa 1840s at Norwich by Allen & Thurber. Features include a 3 - 3/4" flat fluted barrel cluster, no recoil shield, engraved iron frame, bar hammer with retailer mark, and smooth walnut grips with German silver spangles. CONDITION: Very good. Iron components exhibit an attractive brown/gray patina throughout with legible markings. Grips have handling marks with a crack on left panel. Pitted bores with good mechanics. (B) Produced by W.W. Marston under the Washington Arms trade name circa 1850s. Pepperbox features a .32 caliber 6-barrel cluster, engraved iron frame, bar hammer stamped "THE/WASHINGTON/ARMS Co.", and smooth walnut grips. CONDITION: Good. Traces of blued finish present with balance a pleasing gray patina. Grips have finish loss and impressions but remain serviceable. Double action requires attention and does not function.
