Starr Model 1858 single action percussion revolver, manufactured from 1858-1860 with only 3,000 manufactured total. 8" round barrel in .44 caliber rifled with dovetailed blade front sight. 1 piece plain walnut grips with faint illegible cartouches on either side. Matching serial number observed on cylinder with first 3 digits on frame inside hammer channel. All other major parts are marked with "C" US inspector condemnation markings. During the period, other revolvers, also bearing "C" condemnation markings were occasionally bought by civilians and ended up on the battlefield regardless of not passing military inspection. Guns could be condemned for a wide variety of reasons. CONDITION: Very good with virtually all of the original finishes turned a speckled brown patina with traces of case color on hammer. Grips are very good, with handling marks throughout and cartouches illegible. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with well-defined rifling. PROVENANCE: From the Rich Guckes collection. TON
