Lot consists of 3 items. (A) Iron banded, wood stave, keg or barrel style canteen. Late 18th to early 19th century. Neumann, Coll. Encyl., notes, “A common type carried by farmers into the fields and undoubtedly used by militia and irregulars during the War for Independence.” CONDITION: Very good. 1 iron hoop a bit loose, otherwise excellent. Iron handle and spout in place. Traces of period paint. (B) US military rifleman’s flask marked and dated by Batty, 1848, with small inspector initials. Copper and brass. Very attractive “peace flask” with Eagle, stand of arms, US shield, and clasped hands in a sunburst glory with stars at center. CONDITION: Very good. Very shallow indentation above Eagle, small ding to top edge brass collar. Nice, medium, undisturbed patina with minor age spots. Suspension loops in place. (C) Regulation issue Civil War enlisted man’s 1839 pattern oval US belt plate with mid-war arrow style hooks. CONDITION: Very good. Non-dug, medium patina, slight traces of gilt in recesses. Minor dings and handling marks. Hooks in place.
