Hard to find L.C. Smith Specialty Grade Featherweight .410 bore side by side hammerless shotgun made by Hunter Arms Company in Fulton, New York in 1940. This gun is one of 40 total Specialty Grades made in this gauge and 1 of 23 made with 28" barrels. Gun has 28" Nitro Proofed fluid steel barrels with raised matted rib, twin bead sight, and ejectors. Barrel reads "L.C. Smith SPECIALTY GRADE" on right barrel and "HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. M'F'R'S FULTON, NY U.S.A.". Case hardened Featherweight frame with typical Specialty Grade floral and bird pattern engraving. Blued English style trigger guard with possible original owner's name "K. DeLaittre" engraved on trigger bow. Gun has single selective Hunter One trigger and English style grip. Figured checkered walnut English grip stock with factory hard rubber buttplate. Walnut checkered splinter forearm with ebony diamond inlay and roller style latch release. Comes with factory letter confirming all options and shipment to Von Lengerke & Antoine in Chicago, Illinois in 1940. CONDITION: 95% original barrel blue with some light handling wear. Barrels still exhibit engine turn at bores. 90% fading case colors with handling wear. In time action screws with holes slightly looking like they have been removed professionally. 90% plus varnish with light handling marks with 2 small chips out of wood on rear and left top of forearm. Possibly lightly cleaned with an added coat of linseed oil. Excellent bores and mechanics. A great rare gun. DLM
