Kentucky style flintlock rifle similar to guns built in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania or surrounding counties of central Pennsylvania circa 1840. 38 - 1/2" octagon .50 caliber smoothbore barrel with rifle sights remnants of zig-zag engraving around rear sight often seen in those areas. Flintlock marked "T. Elwell" with gunsmith made trigger (crude). Brass backplate with raindrop and oval-shaped plates often scene in this area. Full plain maple stock with artificial striping and brass hardware including a 4-piece patchbox with finial scene in Dauphin area. Stock has slight Roman nose architecture with coin silver thumbpiece. Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall good with nice original patina. Lock looks to be a reconversion and patchbox lid has chunk missing out of it. Pitted bore likely shot out and bored to .50 caliber in the day with functioning mechanics. DLM
