Lot consists of an identical pair of boxlock pistols by H.W. Mortimer. Round brass barrels with "(Crown) / CP" and "(Crown) / V" proofs on right side of barrels, rib sweated on underside with channel for ramrod, which is retained by a single thimble and feeds into a separate thimble of smaller diameter, with tail of ramrod turned down appropriately. Left side of barrels with spring loaded bayonet mounted, release mounted to left side of boxlock. Plain cocks of a nominal dolphin form. Left side of boxlock with "H.W. MORTIMER LONDON" with some light scroll, right side with "GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY" in a stand of arms. Simple slabside bag grips with a flared bottom. CONDITION: Barrels has a pleasing old patina with evidence of an old cleaning that left some microscratches throughout. Bayonets have been cleaned with light pitting visible throughout. Grips are very good with some bumps and bruises throughout. Both have an area of deeper pings near the wrist. One grip has a pair of small cracks near the flare on butt. Mechanically fine, bores are very good. A lovely pair of boxlocks. EMW
