This is a great example of a complete Vietnam War Era fighting knife. The Gerber knife was one of the most coveted and sought after weapons by service members, as these knives were one of the best fighting knives used during the Vietnam War. Gerber knives were basically an updated version of the Fairbairn-Sikes fighting knife and were produced by the Gerber factory Each knife featured an aluminum cast handle which was desirable considering Vietnam's climate. The thin stiletto stabbing type blade features a weighted front end that is razor sharp on the edges. The ricasso is marked with the Gerber knife in stone logo and "GERBER / Portland Ore. U.S.A." The reverse ricasso is marked with the original issue number "10818". CONDITION: The blade retains its bright polished finish and exhibits scattered scratches and blemishes. The cast aluminum handle retains most of its original paint with evidence of light handling wear. Overall excellent. JLD
