Smith Carbine made by American Machine Works, Springfield, Massachusetts from 1861-1865. 21 - 5/8" round folding rifled .50 caliber barrel with pinned blade front sight and graduated rear flip sight. Case hardened percussion action with button release and slide bar with saddle ring. Walnut stocks with iron hardware and "JH" cartouche. CONDITION: Overall good with metal turning a brown patina with some light surface corrosion. Action has faded to brown patina. Wood has dark oil soaked appearance with usage marks and dings. Good bore with hammer having a spring issue and tang missing the lead bolt. DLM
