Manufactured in 1886. This was Colt's first double action revolver produced from 1877 - 1909. This is a factory nickel gun with fire blue screws and 2-piece hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt logo. Roll die caliber marking on left side of barrel. 2-line Hartford address on top of the barrel. Colt patent dated on the left side of the frame with the Colt logo. There is a star on the right rear of the trigger guard webbing, indicating that it has been back to Colt for repair. CONDITION: Gun retains 80% of the factory applied nickel finish. Bore shows some light pitting in the lands and grooves. The trigger rebound spring needs some work. Grips are aftermarket grips and do not fit the gun that well. Comes in a nice leather case correctly embossed "Steven Decatur" . Leather handle is in need of some repair. PROVENANCE: This gun was acquired from a direct descendant of the Decatur family and has a notarized letter confirming this information. While the Steven Decatur of Tripoli fame died too early to own the gun, this gun belonged to Stephen Decatur, great grandfather of the consignor and great great nephew of Stephen Decatur of Tripoli fame, who served in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned in the Spanish-American War as a Lieutenant, born 1855 and died 1934.
