1 of only 150,000 C96 "Red Nine" manufactured by Mauser during World War I under contract for the Imperial Germany military. Receiver is stamped "WAFFENFABRIK // MAUSER // OBERNDORF A/N" over the chamber, with a "(Crown) / U" commercial proof on the left and a Imperial German proof present on the right. Major metal components are blued, with some smaller components being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with their proper 2-piece red painted "9" wood grips. All numbers are matching, including the grips. This example is accompanied by an unmarked stock, as well as a leather holster containing 3 stripper clips. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some spots of wear and some areas of thinning overall, as well as some areas of oxidation on the grip straps. Bore is bright, exhibiting moderate oxidation and strong rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered handling marks, but are otherwise fine. Stock shows numerous scattered handling marks and minor impressions, but otherwise appears sturdy and serviceable. Holster is excellent. MLW
