1885 Winder Musket manufactured by Winchester for the U.S. military, who utilized these rifles for training during World War I. Left side of barrel bears Winchester's 2-line address, with ".22 SHORT" present at the breech. Top of frame is stamped "U S" over a ordnance bomb proof, with "WINCHESTER" above patent information present on the upper tang. Barrel retains its original blue finish, with the frame, lever, barrel band, nose cap, sling swivels, and being case colored. Barrel is mounted with a J. Stevens Arms Company scope. Furniture is comprised of solid walnut and features a full length forend. This example is accompanied by an unmarked leather sling. CONDITION: Very good as partially restored, with metal components retaining the majority of their original and reapplied finishes overall. Barrel exhibits thinning overall, that shows through to a pleasant brown patina. Frame retains vibrant case coloring, with some spots of light pitting present beneath the finish. Very bright bore, exhibiting a few spots of cleaned oxidation and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Walnut furniture shows some scattered handling marks and impressions from handling and storage, but is otherwise fine. Optic is clear and exhibits some light wear to its exterior. Sling is excellent.
