P.08 Luger manufactured by Mauser clandestinely for the German military in 1935. The receiver bears Mauser's "G" date, signifying manufacture in 1935, with early Mauser arsenal proofs followed by a Weimar eagle firing proof on the right. Toggle bears Mauser's "S/42" code. Barrel bears an a Mauser arsenal proof as well as an eagle firing proof. Receiver lug bears an eagle proof, with the code being indiscernible Major metal components are rust blued, with some smaller components being nitre blued and strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips, with the left grip panel bearing a hand-inscribed swastika on the interior of the panel. All numbers are matching, with the exception of the grips and firing pin which are unnumbered, and the magazine that is mismatched. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their original rust blue finish, exhibiting some light freckling on the grip straps, as well as some minor wear overall. Strawed components are very good, showing some areas of wear that exhibits some age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting a coating of what appears to be hardened grease and retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips are very good overall, exhibiting some smoothing as well as some nicks to the diamonds, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. MLW
