Classic configuration with 6" barrel with top rib that reads "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS", German silver front sight, notch rear sight. 2 piece rosewood grips retained by single screw through German silver escutcheon. Engraved in approximately 75% coverage of Nimschke style scroll with iconic fouled anchor on left sideplate. Housed in a case with compartments for gun and box of .32 Short Rimfire by United States Cartridge Co.. Roy Jinks signed Smith & Wesson letter indicates shipment May 30th, 1865, to J.W. Storrs, New York City, New York, in a shipment of 75; mixes were finished, with 6" barrels and smooth rosewood grips. The gun was not engraved, and Jinks indicates that it was probably done by the distributor. CONDITION: Very good, and cleaned in the European fashion over some spotted oxidation. Engraving is crisp throughout. Hinge pin a replacement and wobbles a touch. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong visible rifling and some slight frosting. Face of cylinder with heavier oxidation than balance of gun. Case is good as associated with one set of compartment walls damaged and loose from box, cartridge box is full with age related distress including separation to corners and end flaps detached. EMW
