Circa 1902. An English built side-by-side shotgun with 30" dovetail blacked steel barrels. The barrels are built with fixed chokes, ejectors, and tapered smooth concave game rib with type "C" doll's head rib extension and a brass front bead. Chokes measure .039" and .009" left and right respectively. The top of the rib is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS 178 NEW BOND ST LONDON" and the number "1". Foliate scroll engraving on breech end of the rib and doll's head. Barrel flats show original Birmingham nitro proofs for 1-1/8 oz of shot and later Birmingham reproof from 1986. Bottoms of both barrels are stamped with the gun's serial number "8285", proof mark, and initials "FL" and initials "CC" on forend loop. The droplock action features double triggers protected by a blacked trigger guard and tang with serial number "8285" and 2 engraved screws and a non-automatic blacked scored safety slide. Water table is stamped with proofs and patent information. Case color hardened finish action is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS" in gold inlay below the water table. Bottom of action is blacked. Top of the action body is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS EJECTOR". The blacked top lever is engraved with the number "1". Honey color French walnut straight hand grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over a rubber recoil pad and features border checkering and a stock oval on the toe line with "P.A" engraved. Matching splinter forend with horn tip insert and Deeley type release. The forend metal has case color finish matching the rest of the gun along with the number "1" engraved on underside. The guns serial number "8285" is stamped into the underside of the forend wood. Vintage oak and leather case with Westley Richards case trade label and 2 other labels from Westley Richards for using and cleaning the gun. Interior is lined in green cloth and has a 3-piece wood cleaning rod with phosphor bronze brush attached. CONDITION: Good. Barrels retain 90% black with usage and handling marks. Barrels are slightly off face. Action retains much of its recent case color finish. Wood benefited from a refresh, checkering has been recut. Handling and storage marks on buttstock and forend.
