US Model 1836 flintlock pistol manufactured by Johnson with 8 - 1/2" round barrel in .54 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight. Barrel is martially marked "U.S / JH / P" on left side above barrel flat. Lock is marked "U.S / R. JOHNSON / MIDDLN. CONN." and is dated 1842 underneath. 1 piece walnut stock bearing 2 cartouches on left stock flat, 1st cartouche is obscured and 2nd is "WAT". Captured ramrod with iron mountings. CONDITION: Very good, with markings crisp and and barrel turned a gray patina with freckling throughout. Iron mountings retain an untouched dark gray patina. Stock is very good with minor cracks near rear of lock and on left side of barrel near breech. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is good with abrasion throughout from use. A nice example of a Mexican-American War era martial pistol with an appropriate lock date in original flint. TON
