US Model 1842 percussion pistol manufactured by H. Aston in Middletown, CT and dated 1847. 8 - 1/2" round barrel in .54 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight and no provision for rear sight. Captured ramrod on swivel. 1 piece walnut stock with brass mountings. Left flat of stock bears "WAT" cartouche. Barrel is faintly dated 1847 on tang and is inspector marked "JH / P" near breech. CONDITION: Good, with iron assemblies turned an untouched, mottled dove-gray patina with freckling throughout. Stock is very good as lightly sanded and finish added with a small crack on left side and handling marks throughout. Mechanically fine. Bore is frosted with minor abrasion throughout. A nice Model 1842 Martial Pistol with a US-Mexican War era date. TON
