Mauser Model 71 cavalry carbine manufactured by Steyr in 1876. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the serial numbered followed by "MOD. 71", with the year of manufacture "1876" stamped on the right side with several Imperial arsenal proofs. The barrel is stamped "OESTERR.WAFFFB.GES" on the top flat, with a "(Crown) / FW" (for Kaiser Wilhelm) on the left flat and additional arsenal proofs on the right. Left side of barrel is stamped "1877" just above the wood line, with an Imperial German reichsadler present on the bottom. Buttplate is stamped "9 U./ 4./ 53.", indicating issue to the 9th Uhlan Regiment, 4th Company, rack number 53. Features include a 20" rifled barrel, blade front sight, adjustable carbine ladder rear sight, as well as a full length solid walnut stock. All numbers are matching with the exception of the stock, which is unnumbered. CONDITION: Metal components are in-the-white, appearing to have been lightly cleaned at one point in time and exhibiting age related discoloration and some spots of light surface oxidation overall. Very bright bore, exhibiting some spots of inactive oxidation and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Stock has been sanded and revarnished (likely at the arsenal), and exhibits some scattered marks as well as a couple dings and impressions from storage and handling, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable.
