The FNC was developed in Belgium by FN Herstal, developed circa 1974-1976 as a competitor to the ubiquitous M16, using the unsuccessful CAL as a jumping off point. This example is marked on left side of the receiver with "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL / FNC .223 MADE IN BELGIUM / GUN SOUTH INC., TRUSSVILLE AL." and "CAL. 5.56mm (.223) / HOWCO DIST. INC. / LAUREL, MD. USA". Left side of frame with "S / 1" fire control markings, and serial number at rear. Sidefolding paratrooper wire stock. 2 position aperture rear sight with marks for 250 and 400 meters, front sight is an elevation adjustable post. Flip up grenade sight. Distinct polymer handguard and 12 port flash hider. Sling swivel mounted on barrel and along spine of stock. Cleaning kit is present in pistol grip, but oiler is empty (does not ever appear to have been filled). Previous owner clearly cared deeply about the condition of this rifle as piece of felt have been strategically applied to the left side of the gas control to prevent marks. Complete with owners manual. CONDITION: Overall excellent, showing only the most minor of marks from handling and storage, possibly shop wear. Receiver is excellent, Gun South markings are somewhat cloudy, and look to be a poor application of white infill. Mechanically fine, bore is excellent with crisp rifling. A top quality example. EMW
