Extremely low 2-digit "W" block serial number P.38 manufactured by Mauser in 1944. The left side of the slide is stamped "P.38" followed by "byf/44" and the serial number "94w", with the right side exhibiting 2 "(Eagle) / 135" waffenamts surrounding an eagle proof. "(Eagle) / 135" waffenamts are also present on the left side of the slide and the left side of the barrel. Rear of frame bears an "NHM. CO" import stamp on the bottom of the grip spur. Metal components are blued, with the frame being mounted with 2-piece black pressed resin grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, slide, barrel, as well as on the barrel block. This example is accompanied by a brown leather holster stamped "nkfa / 43" above an "(Eagle) / WaA47" waffenamt, indicating manufacture by J.J. Schlayer in Reutlingen, Germany. PROVENANCE: From the collection of esteemed NFA firearms enthusiast and collector J. R. Moody. CONDITION: Very fine, with metal components retaining nearly all of their original arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting very light superficial marks from handling and storage overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting a layer of old cosmoline and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show a few minor nicks and handling marks, but are otherwise fine. Holster is excellent. An exceptional condition late war produced Mauser P.38 with a very desirable 2 digit serial number. MLW
