British Enfield Pattern 53 Model 1858 percussion carbine made in England by Tower in 1860. Gun follows type sent by the British to some of their colonial troops in India as identified by the smoothbore and the "(Crown) / VR" marked lock. 24" smoothbore .66 caliber barrel with fixed pinned blade front sight and rear notch fixed sight stamped with "ALABAMA" on top indicating possible Confederate usage. "81" and "W" are found stamped on barrel, barrel bands, buttplate, and trigger guard. Percussion lock marked with "(Crown)/ VR" and "1860 / TOWER". Walnut stock with brass hardware and steel ramrod. Missing sling swivel loops on toe and trigger guard. CONDITION: Gun reflects condition of a gun from the Civil War era with spurious stampings. Pitted bore with crisp mechanics with wood having an added coat of linseed oil. DLM
