Smith percussion sporting rifle manufactured by Poultney & Trimble with 28" octagon barrel in .36 caliber with 2 leaf flip up rear sight and German silver front sight base where front sight blade once was. Walnut forearm featuring pewter nosecap. Checkered finely figured walnut stock with cheeckpiece and complete with rifle buttplate. Top of frame is marked "GILBERT SMITH / PATENT 1857 / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE MD". Top barrel flat has same address in script, but is partially obfuscated by top latch. CONDITION: Good, with virtually all of the finish turned an even brown patina. Stock is very good as lightly sanded and finish added but is strong with no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with sharp rifling. TON
