Manufactured by the Lee Fire Arms Co. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1865 to 1866 in limited quantities. These rifles are built with a swing out breech design patented by James P. Lee, known for his later work with the Remington-Lee and Winchester-Lee rifle designs. 28" octagon barrel chambered for .38 rim fire with manual ejector, 2-line address, and open sporting sights. Barrel and receiver are in-the-white. Plain walnut stock with case hardened buttplate. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel and receiver have been cleaned to a silvery patina with some polishing marks visible in addition to a few spots of cleaned pinprick oxidation. Markings remain crisp. Pivot and tang screws retain significant portions of their original fire blue. Buttplate likewise retains significant portions of its case colors fading to a grey patina. Stock is very good with some scattered impressions, fitting somewhat shy to the buttplate. Very fine bright bore displaying strong rifling. Mechanically fine. BAS
