Designed with strong influence from the British Stokes mortar utilized in World War I, the RM-39's compact size provided Red Army infantrymen with a relatively simple and mobile means of indirect fire. This example, manufactured in 1939, include the mortar cup, baseplate, as well as the bipod. Mortar cup and baseplate are matching, with the tripod being mismatched and bearing a "1940r" manufacture date stamp. Mortar tube is not present. Base plate and portions of the bipod exhibit a green phosphate finish, with remaining components being blued. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their arsenal applied finish, exhibiting some areas of wear showing through to gray patina overall from operation, some scattered marks from handling and storage, as well as a a few areas of minor oxidation. A nice assortment of components for either one's own RM-39 or for one to turn into a nice display piece, with the addition of deactivated tube. MLW
