Percussion Kentucky half stock stamped "S. BIEGH" on top flat of barrel. The name cannot be located anywhere as a gunsmith, although several rifles have been observed with name stamped on the barrel. Some characteristics suggest that this gun was made in the Western Pennsylvania/Southeastern Ohio areas or by an individual schooled in one of these areas or by a master of the same. Gun has 36" full octagon .52 caliber rifled barrel with hunting sights and is stamped "S. BIEGH" near breech at site where makers usually put their names. Gun has commercial "WARRANTED" marked percussion lock with double set trigger with rear trigger having a semi-circle configuration seen on Ohio made guns. Curly maple half stock with brass hardware including a brass 4 piece patchbox with 5 piercings and a whale tail finial often seen on Pennsylvania guns. Brass trigger guard resembles type used in Western Pennsylvania. Gun also has 5 coin silver inlays, several clipped, as seen on some Western Pennsylvania guns. Nice gun in need of more research. CONDITION: Overall good with metal turning a brown patina. Wood has nice original appearance with brass and silver having pleasing patina. Shootable bore with crisp mechanics. DLM
