Circa 1978. A nicely balanced 147SL (sidelock) game gun with 28" blacked steel barrels. Barrels are fit with ejectors, 2 - 3/4" chambers, matte concave tapered rib with third fastener extension and white round front bead sight. Barrels are also fit for side clips and with light scroll engraving near breech. Left barrel reads "GEBR MERKEL SUHL","MADE IN GDR". Right barrel reads "SPECIAL-GEWEHRLAUSF-STAHL"."CHROMIUM INSIDE" Chokes are Full and Light Full. Bottom rib fit with loop for sling. The brushed coin finished sidelock action with cocking indicators, double triggers, cross bolt, side clips, blacked top lever and serrated safe slide is handsomely engraved with scrolls and game scenes of flying/feeding ducks and grouse being flushed by a German Short Haired Pointer dog through wooded fields. Top lever is stippled, scroll engraved and thumb piece is checkered. Gun is auto safe. The blacked lightly scroll engraved trigger guard extends to half-length bottom strap. The gun's stock and forend are reddish-brown with smoky straight grain figuring and matched fine checkering. Buttstock is fit with a pistol grip, grip cap, cheekpiece, loop for sling and finished by a black checkered ebonite German buttplate. Forend with a lightly scroll engraved Deeley styled latch release. Gun is housed in a green and brown leather Merkel case. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain most of their black. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is sound, ejectors are in time and triggers are crisp. Stock and forend are very good with minor handling marks. There is slight bit more indication of use at the left edge of the buttplate than on at the rest of the buttstock. Case is very good with light storage marks. Very nice gun!
