U.S. Navy Pattern 1889/1905 Holster for the Colt Model 1889 Double Action Revolver. The holster is constructed of black leather and is complete with its full flap and brass snap. Highlighting the flap is the embossed "USN" in a double oval boarder. The inside of the flap is marked "R.C.A." in black ink. The belt loop is secured on the reverse with 3 iron rivets. This holster is historically significant because it is connected with the adoption of the double-action .38 caliber revolver, and because it is associated with role of the US Navy in the extension of US power on the world stage in the late 19th century. CONDITION: The holster remains pliable with the leather surface exhibiting scuffs, minor flaking, and cracks at the fold of the flap. The embossed "USN" is somewhat faint but legible. Brass snap functions properly. Overall good. JLD
