Frame manufactured 1915. Half-moon front sight, U-notch flat top rear sight. Right side of slide with "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY", left side of slide with 3-line 1-block patent information and "S" flaming bomb stamp that is generally accepted to be the mark of A.J. Savage Munitions Co.. Barrel hood is stamped with intertwined "HP" that share a leg. Frame stamped "H" at top of bridle near disconnector hole. Left side of dust cover marked 'UNITED STATES PROPERTY" in serif font, right side of frame with serial number. Interestingly, there are no inspection marks on this pistol aside from the "H" stamp; this is correct and Colt serial numbers 128617 - 129616 actually fall within the Springfield Armory assigned range but are listed in the Colt factory ledger. Speculation on the reasons for these pistols ranges from Colt manufacturing pistols intended as spares or building complete pistols from excess Springfield inventory after they terminated their contract. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, thick tab safety with relief mill cut, checkered slide release with relief mill cut, short 1911 grip safety, long smooth trigger, checkered magazine release, flat smooth mainspring housing, truncated diamond walnut grips. 2-tone magazine with no lanyard loop stamped "A" on lip for American Pin Co. CONDITION: Overall very good, retaining the majority of the factory bluing with handling marks and evidence of use throughout. Slide has several areas of brown patina coming up through the blue, primarily towards muzzle and on chin of slide. Some silvering to high edges throughout. Frame is very good, better than slide, with spotted oxidation along dust cover. Front strap and mainspring housing are essentially patina with an even layer of oxidation, grip safety has spotted oxidation en suite with dust cover. Small parts en suite. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with strong visible rifling and even frosting throughout. A scarce gun in this serial number range. EMW
