Officers Model Heavy Barrel double action revolver manufactured by Colt in 1938, in line with the Official Police serial numbers. The left side of the barrel is stamped "+ OFFICERS MODEL 38 +/ +HEAVY BARREL+", with Colt's 2-line address across the top. Left side of frame bears the Rampant Colt logo and "VP" proof. Major metal components are blued, with the trigger and rear of the hammer being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion smooth ivory grips. Frame and barrel have been nicely custom engraved, with the frame featuring line bordered scrollwork on a stippled background and a line design on either side of the top strap. Barrel features en suite scroll engraving on a matching stippled background. Features include a 6" barrel, adjustable front and rear sights, as well as a special deep cut hammer. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning showing through to grey patina, as well as a small area on the underside of the barrel that shows some light losses to the metal from the ejector rod head. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Grips are excellent. A very attractive example of a Colt Officers Model 38 revolver with a rare heavy barrel. MLW
