Designed with strong influence from the British Stokes mortar utilized in World War I, the RM-39's compact size provided Red Army infantrymen with a relatively simple and mobile means of indirect fire. This example, manufactured in 1940, has been deactivated via a circular cut on the side of the mortar tube, a crossbar mounted in the bore towards the muzzle, as well as by grinding down the firing pin affixed to the cup. Mortar has been entirely refinished, exhibiting a gray/blue paint overall. Matching numbers are present on the mortar tube, cup, baseplate, as well as on the bipod assembly. CONDITION: Very good, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their reapplied painted finish, exhibiting some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, some spots of light surface oxidation, as well as areas of pitting beneath the paint. An attractive display example of a Russian RM-39 Light Infantry mortar, that saw extensive usage by both opposing militaries on the Eastern Front. MLW
RUSSIAN WORLD WAR II RM-39 50MM LIGHT INFANTRY DISPLAY MORTAR.
