Rare and possibly the only gun known by Andrew Shennefelt, son of Nicholas Shennefelt, of McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and later Clarion, Pennsylvania. Andrew left the gun business early on and attended Bucknell University and became a Baptist minister. His career as a gunmaker in Clarion lasted from 1850 to 1853 according to Russell Harriger's Book "LONGRIFLES OF PENNSYLVANIA VOLUME I JEFFERSON, CLARION, AND ELK COUNTIES". Gun has 36" octagon .40 caliber rifled barrel with rifle sights stamped "A. SHENNEFELT CLARION, PA". Percussion lock marked "WHITMORE & WOLFF PITTSBURGH" with double set trigger control. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including a 'Q' finial 4-piece engraved patchbox with leaf design on lid and 5 coin silver inlays (one possibly added later and is marked with strange patent date). Comes with hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal has aged oxidized finish with some surface pitting. Brass has surface corrosion with some discoloration. Stock has been cleaned with traces of black piano finish in protected areas with some cracking along forestock. Dark bore with functioning mechanics. A rare chance to complete a Huntingdon County rifle collection or a Clarion Collection. DLM
