Kentucky Style percussion rifle made by Nicholas Shennefelt of McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and later of Clarion, Pennsylvania. This rifle most likely was made in Clarion, Pennsylvania, circa 1850. Gun has 40" octagon .45 caliber rifled barrel with rifle sights stamped "N. SHENNEFELT". Unmarked percussion lock controlled by double set triggers with front trigger being lathe turned. Rifle still exhibits some traits from Huntingdon: lathe turned trigger, stock dimple, and skinny triggerguard. Gun has walnut full stock with brass hardware including a 4 piece patchbox with 5 piercings and "Q" finial with coin silver oval inlay. Gun stamped are generally assumed to have been made in Shennefelt's later period in Clarion. CONDITION: Metal is turning a brown patina with surface corrosion. Wood has been cleaned with dings and usage marks. Brass has been polished long ago and is fading to a golden patina. Dark pitted bore with sticky mechanics. DLM
