Huntingdon County Kentucky percussion Rifle made by J.S. JOHNSTON of McConnellstown, Huntingdon County Pennsylvania circa 1850. 33 - 1/4" octagon .38 caliber rifled barrel stamped "J.S. JOHNSTON" with gunsmith made target style hooded front sight and rear notch hunting style sight. Tang is drilled for peep sight. Commercial percussion lock with double set trigger control and typical lathe turned Huntingdon style front trigger. Full curly maple stock with dark piano style finish and Huntingdon traits such as the comb dimple, brass stepped buttplate, Spearpoint finial, 4 piece patchbox, and stock architecture. Gun has engraved coin silver Federal Eagle and coin silver floral engraved saddle plate. A great example of a Huntingdon County rifle. CONDITION: Metal fading to a plum patina with brass turning a golden yellow. Stock retains 90% of the original dark piano style finish. Copper added protective piece near tang with missing silver inlay in front of lock. Dark but shootable bore. DLM
