Kentucky percussion rifle signed "WHITE", most likely John White, son of Peter White of Bedford, Pennsylvania and later Uniontown, Pennsylvania. John White learned from Peter White and later moved to New Lisbon, Ohio and later back to Western Pennsylvania. This rifle could have been made at either location and it is difficult to tell where. Gun has a 38" octagonal .36 caliber rifled barrel marked "CAST STEEL" and stamped "WHITE" with rifle sights. "JAMES M. COOPER / WARRANTED" marked percussion lock with double set trigger control. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including a finely engraved Federal Eagle on trigger guard and floral pattern on toeplate. Rifle has 2 silver inlays with one being a silver thumbpiece with "JW" in script engraved on it, and a cheek inlay with Federal Eagle, but inlay has either been placed in upside down intentionally or has fallen out and replaced mistakenly reversed when replaced. CONDITION: Overall good with metal fading to a plum patina with some slight surface corrosion. Stock has been cleaned of its original black finish with crack at toe and some burnout around lock. Pitted bore with functioning mechanics. DLM
