P.08 manufactured by Mauser clandestinely in 1935 for the German military. Receiver bears Mauser's "G" date code over the chamber, with Mauser proofs on the right. Toggle bears Mauser's "S/42" manufacturer code. Barrel bears a small "(Eagle) / 211" waffenamt on the left side. Metal components are rust blued, with some small components being strawed and nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown bolt, sideplate, trigger, safety lever, safety bar, barrel, receiver, breechblock, firing pin, toggles, receiver axle pin, as well as the magazine. Grips are unnumbered. Pistol is accompanied by a black leather holster stamped with an indiscernible manufacturer on the back (appearing to be "CARL HEINICHEN / DRESDEN" over "1936" followed by an early "(Droop Eagle) / WaA142" waffenamt. Holster has been converted to a police configuration and contains a spare non-matching magazine. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory applied blue finish, exhibiting some scattered areas of wear showing through to gray patina and silvering, areas of thinning on the grip straps and barrel that show through brown patina, as well as some mild spots of surface oxidation overall. Bore is bright, exhibiting very light inactive oxidation and good rifling throughout. Grips show some nicks to the diamonds, as well as a couple scattered impressions, but are otherwise fine. Holster is very good, being malleable, showing moderate external wear, and showing smoothing to its factory stampings. MLW
