Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure 4th Class medal. The Order of the Sacred Treasure is awarded to both Japanese and foreigners for long and meritorious service. It ranks the lowest of the 3 main Japanese orders. This example is in standard configuration, featuring gilded silver with 5 white sun rays of increasing length that appear to form the shape of a 'V' on each of the 4 arms of a cross. The obverse features a center of polished silver on a blue enamel field which is surrounded by a gilded circle with a beaded inner edge. The center is surrounded by 16 jewels, 8 large and 8 small, in red paste, united by red lines. The reverse is mostly plain with the exception of 4 Japanese characters, which translate to "Order of the merit decoration" engraved at the center. Fitted with a piece of white and yellow ribbon which is folded in a triangular pattern with a hook and eye clip sewn on the back. A rosette of the same colors is attached to the front. Presented beautifully on velvet. CONDITION: Handling wear, especially on the reverse. Overall very good. (B) Japanese Order of the Golden Kite 5th Class with paper and USGI capture annotations. Exclusively a military award, The Order of the Golden Kite was conferred for bravery, leadership, or command in battle. The medal depicts a golden kite with red enameled rays encircling blue enamel crossed ancient samurai shields with 2 yellow enamel crossed swords. The reverse is plain and the medal is fitted with a squared green and white ribbon. Contained in a wood case with the medal paper which is inscribed with USGI capture annotations. CONDITION: The medal exhibits wear, especially on the reverse. Paper is fragile. Overall good. JLD
