Third Reich cast aluminum railway eagle measuring 24" x 14" marked "GPM" and "GAL - Mg. Si." (alloy composition). This example has not been cleaned or polished, and has heavy age patina. This eagle was certainly mounted during WWII, and was clearly pried off the rail car it was mounted to. The cast mounting lugs on the reverse have been forcibly broken off by use of a tool, as you can observe the tool marks on the outer edge of each lug. There is a 1" crack above the lower lug on the reverse, but you can only see a 1/2" crack above the wreath on the obverse. There are 4 small holes drilled on the top edge of the wings for mounting sometime after the war. An interesting example. CONDITION: Overall very good. WEZ
