Model 1903 New Army double action revolver manufactured by Colt in 1903. The left side of the barrel is stamped "COLT. D.A. 38", with Colt's 2-line address across the top. Left side of frame bears a "J.F.H." and "R.A.C." inspectors stamps above "1903". Bottom of butt is stamped "U.S. / ARMY / MODEL / 1903" above the serial number. Bottom of grips bear a "R.A.C." stamp on either panel. Major metal components retain a high polish blue finish, with some smaller components being nitre blued. Features include a 6" barrel, half-moon front sight, frame notched rear sight, as well as 2-piece smooth walnut grips. Matching assembly numbers are present on the cylinder crane assembly and cylinder release latch. Interior of grips exhibit matching assembly numbers via handwritten inscriptions in pencil. Revolver is accompanied by a factory letter indicating that this example was shipping to "United States Government / Commanding Officer / Springfield Armory / Springfield, Massachusetts" in a shipment of 200 guns on December 16th of 1903. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original high polish blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning showing through to gray and brown patinas. Mirror bore, exhibiting some firing residue towards the breech, but otherwise retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered handling marks and minor impressions overall, but are otherwise very good. MLW
