Lot consists of 2 nautical items: (A) Thomas Walker & Son patent “harpoon ship log.” Patented in 1861, this helped calculate ship speed. In original wood box with most of the instructional label present on the underside of the lid. CONDITION: Very good. Towing rope in place. Label with edge loss but visible text. (B) Whaler’s explosive bomb lance. Introduced about 1850, these were designed to replace hand-thrown lances and were fired from heavy barreled, shoulder fired percussion whaling guns. CONDITION: Very good.
