New Army double action revolver manufacture by Colt in 1898 for commercial sales. The left side of the barrel is stamped "COLT. D.A. 38", with Colt's address and patent information across the top. Left side of frame bears the encircled Rampant Colt logo. Bottom of butt is engraved with what appears to be a New Jersey National Guard unit marking "C.F.A. / 2d N.J.". Major metal components exhibit a lustrous high polish blue finish, with the trigger, hammer, frame screws, and grip screw being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered hard rubber grips, embellished with "COLT" over the Rampant Colt logo at the top on either panel. Matching assembly numbers are present on the frame, cylinder crane, cylinder release latch, as well as on the interior of the grip panels. CONDITION: Very good overall, with metal components retaining the majority of their factory applied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of thinning and mild wear, as well as mild freckling overall. Grips straps, exhibit wear and thinning that shows shows through to gray patina. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined lands and grooves throughout. Grips are very good overall, exhibiting a few scattered marks from handling and storage as well as a few minor nicks to the diamonds. Right grip panel has faded to a light brown. A very attractive antique Colt New Army revolver that is in great condition given its age. MLW
