Lot consists of 3 pieces US military leather gear and one boarding pike head. (A) US Navy Yard, Washington, marked leather and brass powder bucket. Nicely marked and dated 1902 on the underside. Leather carrying handle firmly attached by brass D-rings. Flat brass cover pivots open. Orange painted interior typical of early USN powder or ammunition boxes. Body is heavy black leather, solid with good seems, minor scuffs. Likely used for bagged charges used in heavy guns. CONDITION: Very good. (B) Civil War USN boarding pike head. Long quadrangular spearhead with spike tip extending from conical cap with long sidestraps pierced with 3 holes for attachment to shaft. Pattern developed in War of 1812 and carried on US ships through the Civil War and for a time thereafter, used in boarding actions and repelling boarders with the spike tip intended to pass easily through boarding nets. CONDITION: Smooth gray metal with age spots. (C) Watervliet Arsenal marked Hagner pattern cartridge box with wood block for 20 Krag rifle rounds. Cover marked R.I.M. in oval for Rhode Island Militia. Late 1800s, early 1900s. CONDITION: Excellent. (D) US Navy Yard Boston marked fuze pouch. Additional unit stamp along bottom edge: "10.2d BATT" Likely fabricated at Navy Yard shops salvaged gear, typical of USN alterations of belts and gear at the time. Latch tab replaced and stitching marks for the original are off center. CONDITION: Very good.
