Model 1889 double action revolver manufactured by Colt during the first year of production. Left side of barrel is stamped "COLT. D.A. 38", with Colt's 2-line address across the top. This example was upgraded to Model 1895 specifications, with the "MAR 5.95" patent date on the barrel. Colt 5-pointed star inspector proofs and matching assembly numbers are present on the left side of the frame, cylinder crane, as well as on the underside of the barrel towards the breech. Bottom of butt is stamped "U.S.N. / (Anchor) / .38DA / NO / 2053 / P / W.W.K / 1889". Major metal components have been refinished, exhibiting a very nicely applied black enamel finish overall. Trigger, hammer, frame screws, and grip screws retain their nitre blued finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece smooth walnut grips. Complete with a contemporary Robert Saddlery leather holster. CONDITION: Excellent, with metal components retaining virtually all of their reapplied black enamel finish overall, save for the ejector rod, which shows wear through to gray patina from operation. Nitre blued components show varying degrees of wear, with worn areas showing through to gray patina. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips show wear to the varnish, with scattered dings, impressions, and marks from handling and storage overall. Interior of right grip panel exhibits a mild crack that does not appear to effect serviceability. Holster is very good overall. MLW
