Classic configuration with blued 32 - 5/8" barrel chambered in .45-70 and proofed "V / P / (Eagle Head)" at breech. Blade front sight and Buffington rear. Hardened low arch breech block stamped "U.S / MODEL / 1884". Blued lock plate stamped "US / SPRINGFIELD" with federal eagle ahead of the cock. Rifle is mounted in an oil finished walnut stock with blued iron fixtures including 2-spring retained barrel bands, a 2-piece trigger guard, and a "US" marked butt plate. Stock cartouche partially illegible but present. Rifle was previously sold with an a Bureau of Indian Affairs tag reading "U.S. DEPT. OF INDIAN AFFAIRS / APPROVED SALE / No 33 / RIFLE & AMMO / INDIAN POLICE 1888", although this tag is no longer present. CONDITION: Fine. Majority of the arsenal reapplied finish is retained drifting to a chocolate patina. Stock lightly cleaned with some minor marks visible and a split behind at the wrist. Good bright bore.
