Kentucky Style half stock plains type rifle made by J.S. Pittenger of Wellsville, New York circa 1858. Cut down 21" heavy .45 caliber rifled octagonal barrel with dovetailed bead front sight and rear notch sight, stamped "J.S. PITTENGER" with patent breech percussion ignition system. Back action lock with double set trigger control. Hardwood stock with brass and iron furniture, pewter nosecap, and brass tipped hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Overall rough from hard use in the field, if it could only talk. Rough pitted bore with non-functioning mechanics. DLM
