Lot consists of 2 Civil War photo albums. (A) 50 images. Some native to the album and others likely insertions. CDVs and tintypes, 1860s to 1870s. Engravings of several generals mostly US, one of Johnston. Military photos include 2 standing enlisted men, 1 seated, 1 copy shot of sergeant, gem type and gem mounted CDV, military cadet, 1 foreign soldier. Tintypes include a guitarist. A number of family photos likely original to the album and one inserted dead letter office CDV of Surgeon T.R. Dice, 57th USCT. CONDITION: Album poor. One cover missing. Contents good. The Gettysburg related images of Reynolds, Sickles, Meade, and Crawford are hard to find. (B) 78 images, 2 per page. Most are generals and political figures with names in period ink below each image. Photos include Chase, Welles, Butler, Gov. Curtain, Sumner, Douglas, Beecher, Wendell Phillips in civilian clothes with Meade, Burnside, Lyon, Banks, Thomas, Sickles, McClellan and wife, Seigel, Sykes, Sherman, Hooker, Reynolds, and Crawford twice in uniform. The rear pages of the album include engravings of Jeff Davis and wife, Lee, Jackson, Polk, Beauregard, Bragg and a copy CDV of Alexander Stephens. Also and image of 3 children turned away from a Philadelphia hotel on account of color. CONDITION: Album fair to good, pages are loose, but images are good and this seems to be untouched.
