Lot consists of: (A) Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer single shot pistol. Made circa early 1860s. No markings, minus the serial number, marked "13" on the inside of the grip panel, left side of the trigger, bottom of the barrel and on the interior of the grips. Half round, half octagon barrel with brass pin front sight and U-notch rear. Both frame and barrel are iron, with an original blued finish. Oil finished walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with most areas forming an even brown patina. Grips have minor handling marks and scratches. Bore is frosted, with minor pitting. Good overall rifling retained. Hammer is tight, being mechanically fine. (B) Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer single shot pistol. Made circa early 1860's. Left side of the barrel is marked "ALLEN & WHEELOCK.WORCHESTER MASS.". Matching serials on the inside of the frame, bottom of the barrel and on the inside of the grip panels. Half round, half octagon barrel with brass pin front sight and u-notch rear. Both frame and barrel are iron, with a period blued finish. Varnished walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its finishes, with the barrel forming a dark gray patina. Frame shows signs of light cleaning. Grips have finish wear, handling marks and scratches. Bore is heavily frosted with light pitting. Good overall rifling. Barrel moves some when latches. Hammer is tight, being mechanically operable. (C) Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer single shot pistol. Made circa early 1860's. Left side of the barrel is marked "ALLEN & WHEELOCK". Matching serials on the inside of the frame, bottom of the barrel and on the inside of the grip panels. Full octagonal barrel with brass pin front sight and v-notch frame. Barrel looks to have been shortened at some point. Iron frame and barrel with an blued finish (possibly once nickel plated). Varnished walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with most parts forming an overall brown patina. There is a crack in the right grip panel. Grips otherwise have normal handling marks and scratches. Bore is heavily frosted with some light pitting. Fair overall rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. JWA
