Lot consist of: (A) Frank Wesson 2nd Type single shot derringer. Sometimes referred to as the Model 1862, and made circa 1870s. Two line patent dates and company address on the top of the barrel. Matching serials on the butt, and inside of both grips. Half round, half octagon barrel with reshaped front sight. Barrel is blued, with the frame being brass (most likely silver plated originally). Square butt and lacquered walnut grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with a brown patina forming on the barrel. Frame has some tarnish, with no signs of cleaning. Grips are both cracked on the interiors. Barrel is locked up, not able to be opened. Hammer is very tight. Mechanically inoperable. (B) Frank Wesson 1st Type single shot derringer. Barrel is marked "F.WESSON / PATENTED OCT.25,1859". Only visible serial number is on the barrel. Half round, half octagonal barrel with blade front sight. Barrel was originally blued, and the frame silver plated brass. Varnished rosewood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finishes, with the barrel forming an even gray patina. Brass has signs of cleaning and polish, with no silver remaining. Left grip is cracked and repaired on the interior. Otherwise, grips have handling marks. Bore is heavily frosted with minor pitting. Good overall rifling. Tight hammer being mechanically fine. JWA
